چکیده

ORCHIDS is an intrusion detection tool based on techniques for fast, on-line model-checking. ORCHIDS detects complex, correlated strands of events with very low overhead in practice, although its detection algorithm has worstcase exponential time complexity. The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, we explain the salient features of the basic model-checking algorithm in an intuitive way, as a form of dynamicallyspawned monitors. One distinctive feature of the ORCHIDS algorithm is that fresh monitors need to be spawned at a possibly alarming rate. The second goal of this paper is therefore to explain how we tame the complexity of the procedure, using abstract interpretation techniques to safely kill useless monitors. This includes monitors which will provably detect nothing, but also monitors that are subsumed by others, in the sense that they will definitely fail the so-called shortest run criterion. We take the opportunity to show how the ORCHIDS algorithm maintains its monitors sorted in such a way that the subsumption operation is effected with no overhead, and we correct a small, but definitely annoying bug in its core algorithm, as it was published in 2001.

A mushroom by any other name would smell as sweet: Dracula orchids

Mimicry, like coral snakes and their nonvenomous imposters, is one of the most compelling examples of evolution by natural selection. Although mostly known from animals that gain protection by resembling an unpalatable or harmful compatriot, both types of mimicry, Müllerian and Batesian, also occur in plants and fungi. Some fungi are known to mimic flowers to dupe pollinators into vectoring spo...

The Effect of Pollination Time and Gibberellic Acid (GA3) on the Production and Seed Germination of Phalaenopsis Orchids

The germination power of orchids (Orchidaceae family) seems to betoo weak due lack of albumen. The study carried out with various treatments including pollination time and GA3 for breaking dormancy and increasing seed germination of orchids. The effect of pollination time (8 periods from January to August) and gibberellic acid (0, 500, 1000 and 1500 mg L-1) were studied on germination of Phalae...

Recent concepts about sense of smell, odorant receptors and physiology of olfaction- an insight

The sense of olfaction reached its zenith in development much earlier than other special senses. Olfaction is much more acute than the other senses, exhibits both high sensitivity for odours and high discrimination between them. This plays a very important role even in the social and behavioral aspects of human beings. Recent studies using molecular genetics, electrophysiology and behavioral an...

Mycorrhizal diversity in photosynthetic terrestrial orchids

• Specific orchid–fungal associations are known for nonphotosynthetic orchids but fungal diversity in photosynthetic orchids is thought to be quite broad. Specific fungal associations will figure prominently in conservation efforts, while diverse associations may require less attention. We combined culture techniques with ITS and mtLSU sequences and phylogenetic analysis to determine the geneti...

Cultural Adaptation of Sniffin’ Sticks Smell Identification Test: The Malaysian Version

Introduction: Sniffin’ Sticks smell identification test is a tool used for evaluation of olfactory function but the results are culture-dependent. It relies on the subject’s familiarity to the odorant and descriptors. This study aims to develop the Malaysian version of Sniffin’ Sticks smell identification test suitable for local population usage. Materials and Methods:   The o...
